All,

Although it would be excellent if the "Ian C G Bell" on alt.fan.elite who posted the "Let's make up with Braben" message was *really* Ian Bell, sadly I think it's a very un-elaborate hoax.

In the first post, the poster forgot to change the Organization in the message, so it said Warwick University. Bell lives in East Anglia, and works from home.

This message was canceled, along with my message and BabyBrain's message pointing out that it said "University of Warwick" in the org line, and
a new message was posted, this time with the Organization line changed to Ian Bell Inc.

However, the headers still showed Warwick as the NNTP posting host and in the path. Looks like the post originated at wisteria.csv.warwick.ac.uk - I believe that machine is in Warwick's CS dept. (wow, they still name their machines after flowers. Anyone remember poppy.csv.warwick.ac.uk in the days before JIPS?)

I pointed this out. That message got canceled too by someone else, presumably the hoaxer.

At least they can't cancel this. Look for this week's Frontier News as the story unfolds.

I really really *wish* it was IB posting that message, but sadly - no way can that be true!
