Session 5 |
---|
WHEN
: Sunday 12th March 2000
WHAT
: Emergencies and thermalling in a 2-33
WHO
: Dual instruction with Raymond Nallie
HOW LONG : 40 minutes in 2 flight
Today's session was more of a review. I wish I had got the pre-solo written done...my instructor for the day, Raymond Nallie, said he would have cut me loose had I have done one! Oh well, never mind... it can wait for the next session.
We reviewed various 'emergency' techniques, such as stalls with the spoilers extended, and performed a new one - landing without spoilers. We flew all the way in from the IP in a slip - that's the only way you're going to keep the altitude in check in a glider. It made me wonder what you'd do in one of the high performance gliders that don't slip very well. That would get rather interesting.
We also did some more thermalling - I managed to get a gain of 1000 feet on the second flight. We released at 2,000 and after a short time, I found enough lift to get me up to 3,000.
